- ONE OR two allotment holders at Westham, Crossroads have suffered some damage to their crops and property recently.
Local councillor Gill Taylor raised this issue at the recent Westham PACT meeting and was advised that security has been greatly improved on sites where the tenants have formed an association with W&PBC support and cooperation.
Allotment holders are encouraged to report all incidents both to the police and the Council, or at least keep a log of incidents.
This gives evidence as to the extent of any problems and then gives the Council and the police something to work on to solve them.
If anyone with a plot on the site is prepared to be a central point of reference to bring any interested plotholders together in a co-ordinated effort to address this issue and maybe form an association, please contact Graham Newman and/or Gill Taylor to discuss the possibilities.
- WESTHAM COPS are hoping to run the Active Westham programme again in 2009 and Julie Hursthouse and Penny James from Weymouth and Portland Borough Council are busy trying to secure funding to make this happen.
As an interim arrangement, they have been able to secure 24 places for girls and boys to participate in sports activities at Weymouth Outdoor Education centre at Knightsdale Road for nine weeks from Wednesday, January 21 until Wednesday, March 25 2009 excluding half term.
During the nine sessions a range of sports and activities will be run and these will include warm up games, climbing, orienteering, team challenge games and indoor ball games.
The sessions are only open to year five and year six pupils and the cost of these projects will be only one pound per pupil per week but they must attend and pay for all nine weeks.
WOEC will collect pupils from Beechcroft St Paul’s, St Augustine’s and Conifers School at 3.15 but pupils must be collected at five pm from WOEC at the end of the session.
As the places will go extremely quickly if you would like your child to attend, please return the forms that have been sent out to parents of children who attended last summers Active Westham to Penny James, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Offices, North Quay, Weymouth DT4 8TA by Monday, January 5 with a deposit of five pounds. Cheques to made payable to Westham COPS.
- WESTHAM Youth Forum have recently secured funding of £2000 for Youth Activies such as paint balling, rock climbing, fishing and team building.
These events are open to youngsters between eight and twenty one years of age.
Please contact Penny James on 01305 838480 or pennyjames@weymouth.gov.uk for details.
These projects will run from January 2009 to March 2009.
