JUST HOW GREEN HAVE YOU BEEN
JOHN HAYES, Senior Ranger with Dorset County Council
WE try to be as green as possible at home.
Weymouth and Portland are pretty good with their recycling facilities and we put all our paper, milk cartons, tins, glass and plastic bottles in the green boxes and bags and food waste into the brown bin. We can recycle batteries as well now.
We also put our fruit and veg peelings into compost bins and we try to encourage as much wildlife into the garden as possible.
We have low-energy lightbulbs in most of the lights and try not to leave electrical appliances on standby. I nag my wife to make sure she doesn’t over-fill the kettle and we have a bit of a battle reminding our daughter to turn off lights when she leaves a room.
