A DORSET business committed to environmentally-sound farming and food production methods has scooped a national award.
Jenny Goldsack’s Goldy’s farm shop won praise at the seventh annual farm retailer awards in Newcastle organised by the National Farmers’ Retail and Markets Association (FARMA).
Goldy’s, based at Bere Farm, near Organford, Wareham, won the FARMA own and local award.
Judges say winners in this category must themselves produce at least half of the foods for sale in their farm shop and then nurture a local supply chain from other farmers and artisan producers for most of the balance.
They said Goldy’s is already becoming famous for its environmental performance with wind turbines, recycled heat and water and a supply chain that starts in the field behind the shop.
It sells its own organic vegetables, eggs and beef (including rosé veal), traditionally-made, additive-free breads made using homegrown organic wheat and rye from a sourdough starter.
A selection of cakes, pies and ready meals are also made on site using local organic ingredients, and a small team of butchers there produce their own hams, bacons and sausages, including a gluten-free option.
Goldy’s has won a clutch of awards in the past and is a finalist in the forthcoming regional Countryside Alliance Awards.
