A WEYMOUTH school is forging links with other countries – thanks to a scheme with an environmental theme.
The Comenius project is a European Union-funded scheme which aims to promote co-operation within schools.
St Augustine’s Primary School has established links with schools in France, Germany and Spain.
Its Comenius project has a green focus with children in each partner country comparing how well their communities care for their local environment, said project organiser and teacher Jane Gardiner.
She said the link throughout the project is a puppet called Greeny Bird.
Greeny has already helped the children plant a tree in the school grounds in Hardy Avenue and will be accompanying them on trips.
Other tasks include comparing recycling facilities and compiling weather reports.
Mrs Gardiner and colleague Vicky Genge travelled to La Coruna in Spain to a partnership meeting.
She said: “It was an excellent opportunity to meet together with like-minded professionals.
“We are all teachers, committed to educating for the future, knowing that the world is truly shrinking and that children will need to get past preconceptions.
“Learning together about each other, from each other and for each other; genuine partners. Hopefully this project will help our children to reach this goal.”
