JUST HOW GREEN HAVE YOU BEEN
“WE ARE trying to be a lot greener at the prison.
“Health and safety officer Tim Davidson has taken on an additional role responsible for recycling and he’s ensuring we do as much as we can and play our part to reduce our carbon footprint.
“We’ve also seen a reduction in the amount of kit we’re issuing because of a one-for-one scheme we have running where items have to be returned.
“This has enabled money to be ploughed back into other things.
“We’re meeting targets to reduce our carbon emissions, having reduced the amount of water, gas and electricity we use.
“An environmental survey was conducted a while ago which looked at an area of Special Scientific Interest (SSI) close to where we are. Work at the prison is monitored to ensure we do not have an impact on that.
“The neglected garden area opposite has also been given a makeover and we have an area set aside for the local school where they can grow their own vegetables.”
