After a lovely drive from Irving hugging the coast along the A78 we eventually arrived at Gourock. The pool had the lovely backdrop of the River Clyde behind it and was in a perfect setting. Ryan at the kiosk directed to Tommy the supervisor at who was happy for us to swim. After changing in the communal changing area, we started our swim. Two lanes had been allocated for the serious and the not so serious swimmers and we picked our way carefully to avoid any collisions. The pool was very salty being fed by the sea water and almost tasted saltier than the actual sea. I think this must be because of the extra evaporation in the pool? All was going well with only 48 lengths required in this 34-metre pool when I came to an almighty full stop! One of the other swimmers had briefly strayed into the wrong side of the lane and I hit him full on. He was a triathlete and had only taken up swimming the year before so was doing very well but his direction was a little wayward at times. After many apologies, he came to us in the changing area afterwards and made a generous donation to the cause, a lovely Scotsman!
