After our great start to the day at New Cumnock, we drove on to Irving eventually finding the car park leading to the leisure centre. Having ascended the stairs and walked across the bridge, we found reception behind the big automatic doors. The reception lady was lovely and called the pool supervisor who at the time was in a deep slumber. No problem, the pool was ours. We descended the several flights of stairs and made our way to the changing area. This was a huge complex with indoor pools, flumes, wave machines, the lot!. We eventually found the outdoor pool which was being fed by the pools in the complex and seemed to be at the end of a river of chlorine. Being very crowded, we picked our way through the many youngsters and families for the first 10 minutes of our 30-minute swim. The pool was circular so this was another 30-minute job. Then all of a sudden the pool seemed to clear and we were nearly swimming alone for the next 10 minutes. This was all very odd until we discovered that they must have turned the wave machine on. Back came the other swimmers in their droves and we again found ourselves picking our way through a mass of humankind. The plus side was that we had swum another pool and met some very nice people but we wondered if this really qualified as a genuine lido and deserved to be listed in Janet’s book.
