We arrived at Shap, reputably the highest lido in the UK at 1036 feet above sea level with no altitude training. As we approached the pool, there was a local policeman talking to a local resident in the road. A friendly lady at reception greeted us. We managed to avoid most of the children and families in our swim of 100 lengths. During the swim I noticed that the local bobby had been joined another policeman and they were talking to a young girl. No arrest was made and they wnet quickly on their way. I wonder what that was all about. Our swim completed we were given hot chocolate and a collection was made for Save the Children.. We talked to a young mum and her daughter aged about 7 and who had just learnt to swim. The mum had been manning the reception desk earlier: a real team effort.
