I had rung ahead and spoken to Diane Robinson who ran the pool with a local group of volunteers. It was not officially open but Diane was happy to come down at 9am and open it up especially for us. The boiler had recently failed so the committee was having to raise a considerable sum to buy a new one. The Parish Council were prepared to put up some of the cash and provide a loan but it was very much down to local volunteers to keep things going (good on them!). We help Diane to get the pool cover off. The temperature was 16 degrees, which was not much of a challenge for two hardy sea swimmers. More challenging was the fact that we had to complete a total of 112 lengths as the pool was only 15 metres long. This was all done in good time with Diane very kindly providing the coffee afterwards. She had invited Dot Howes who writes the community news section for the Lincolnshire Echo and Sleafoed Standard. Dot kindly donated to our Save the Children collection box. She took some photographs and no doubt our fame will spread across the whole of Lincolnshire as a consequence!
