We started our two-day run by me picking Dave up from the Purbeck Sports Centre at Wareham. The journey to Aylesbury went well and we arrived at the pool just before 10am. Already there were a number of mums with children queuing up and we were a little concerned that we would have to cope with a busy pool. The young lady at reception was lovely and immediately gave us our pink armbands. Dave wore his all day and it suited him! We managed to deposit our clothes in the lockers but then took a while to realise that the only way to the outside pool was through a circular chlorinated fast flowing river. We should have stayed there and no doubt would have completed our mile in side 10 minutes, but that would have been cheating. Finally we found ourselves in the open air and the small 20 metre faced us. Eighty lengths were required which we swam in good time. Initially a very large lady joined us swimming a very gentle breaststroke but she soon disappeared to the other side of the pool. The pool was heated and quite warm and I came out sweating. We drank coffee and ate cake in the cafeteria and it was a good start to the day. Not quite, neither of us remembered to take the obligatory photo but Dave promised me a drawing when he saw how disappointed I seemed.
