Again, we had another very warm welcome from the friendly reception staff and lifeguards. The young lady who invited us in had just finished University and was working at the pool during the summer whilst deciding what to do with life. She told me that she had ambitions to swim the channel and I tried to encourage as much as I could. The pool lay beside the Thames strewn with narrow boats and was only 20 metres long but delightful. 80 lengths were required and we weaved our way at times through “the traffic”. It turned out that some of the youngsters were playing chicken, just getting out of our way at the last moment. As Dave said, it was alright with him but I didn’t take any prisoners! When we got out, the camera decided to play up until I discovered that it needed new batteries. I discovered that the pool had only been open again last week after the recent floods so we were extremely lucky to swim here. Job done and we were made a welcome cup of coffee before getting back on the road.
