We made a short walk from the Parliament Hill Fields Lido through Hampstead Heath towards the Highgate Men’s Bathing Pool. We found a nice café with an outside seating area along the way and had coffee. I was tempted by a huge chocolate cake but felt it would weigh too heavily on my stomach if I gave in. As with the Serpentine later, this was not your normal lido in that it was a pond. Dave thought he might swim breaststroke on this one, as there were dire warnings about the green algae that lurked in the water. However, it didn’t look too bad and we both decided to swim our usual front crawl. As there seemed to be no definitive length we decided to swim for ½ an hour. The water was warm and inviting on this warm summer morning. I must say that thoroughly enjoyed this swim and the wonderful eccentricity in this day and age of the men having their own pool (they even had an enclosed nude sunbathing area). The lifeguard had agreed to store our geared and popped a generous donation into our collecting box. He even popped our flyer on the notice board, good man!
