JUST HOW GREEN HAVE YOU BEEN
County councillor Hilary Cox Cabinet member for the environment
“AS A council we have been doing a lot of campaigning to reduce energy use and we use green electricity in a lot of our establishments.
I calculated my own carbon footprint recently and it wasn’t too bad.
We have energy-saving light bulbs throughout the house, although I’ve noticed that not every fitting can take them.
I support the view that if everyone does a little it adds up to a lot.
I needed a plastic bag the other day to wrap something up but I couldn’t find one because all the bags I have are jute.
It’s virtually impossible not to have a car where I live, although where possible I share with someone else.
We used to live in a draughty old farmhouse where it was often colder inside than outside but we have moved to a more modern property with insulation so the energy bills have reduced.
I’m from up north where people say if you’re cold, you put another jumper on.”
UPDATE
THE people behind the Transition Town movement in Dorchester are organising a mushroom walk on Sunday.
There will be a walk around the Martinstown area, weather permitting, beginning at 11.30am.
It will be an opportunity to chat informally about Transition Towns and learn a little about wild mushrooms.
The walk will finish by 1.30pm to give participants the chance to attend the Local Exchange Trading Scheme (Lets) harvest supper and produce exchange in the village hall at 2.30pm. If you are interested in taking part contact Andy McKee on 01305 848689.
