A man has suffered a serious head injury in an assault in the town's centre.
Shortly before 3am on Sunday police received reports of an 'altercation' in Maiden Street.
Subsequently, a 19-year-old man was assaulted and was taken to hospital for treatment of a serious head injury.
Three people – all aged 19 and from Weymouth – were arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and affray.
They have been released on police bail as further enquiries are carried out.
Jamie Crage, of the Closet Nightclub, told the Echo that although the incident was not connected to the venue, door staff responded to give first aid.
It is understood the assault happened near Helen Lane, near the harbourside.
Police Constable Harry Chaplin, of Weymouth police, said: “We are carrying out a full investigation into this incident and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.”
