When a minibus full of children with special educational needs broke down, police were there to help them disembark safely.

Officers from Weymouth & Portland Police responded to a broken-down minibus on Weymouth Way.

Upon attending it was found to be a bus belonging to Bay House.

This is a service that provides specialist residential short breaks for children with moderate to severe learning difficulties, Autism, ADHD and associated behavioural challenges, physical disabilities and sensory impairment.

Police helped the children disembark to safety, and visited them the next day with police teddies.

A spokesperson for Weymouth & Portland Police said: "Officers from Response Team Blue responded to a broken-down mini-bus on the Weymouth Way.

"The mini-bus was full of children who were very excited to see the police, officers assisted in getting the children off of the bus and to safety.

"Whilst waiting with them they learnt more about the reason for the journey and were taken aback by the amazing work Bay House does for disabled children and offering respite care to their families.

"Once the vehicle was safely recovered, the following day they visited Bay House with some mini police teddy bears and showed them the police car.

"The children were very excited to get to sit in the police car and turn on the blue lights."
