The front of the car appeared badly damaged and burnt out and two police officers remained at the scene until later on.
There was also a large fuel spillage which has now been reported to the local authority.
One passer-by on Dorchester Road, said: "I saw oil leading all the way up the street, and when I looked further down the road there was a black car that looked badly damaged by fire."

The crew from Weymouth also assisted police with scene safety.
According to the fire service, no serious injuries were reported.
