Snow could be falling in Dorset later today, forecasters have predicted.
Cold air is sweeping the county and although many parts of the country woke up to snow this morning, Dorset has so far missed out.
However, Dorset-based weather forecasters say that there may be snow landing in Dorset.
Dorset Snow said on X (formerly Twitter): "A period of light patchy sleet and snow is possible over high ground this afternoon and evening. The cold front has now passed through and will keep temperatures on the cold side until Saturday morning."
UK Extreme Weather said: "Cold air undercutting pretty quickly now. I wouldn’t be surprised if the precipitation holds together, Dorset may see falling snow later today into the early evening."
Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Rebekah Hicks said last week: “A notable early winter cold spell will arrive across the north from Sunday and will likely reach all parts of the UK by midweek.”
According to the Met Office, temperatures are expected to drop to below -1C tonight in Weymouth, and remain cold both Wednesday and Thursday.
Shaftesbury is forecast to have light snow at 5pm today.
As the cold weather approaches, Dorset and Wiltshire and Fire and Rescue recommend drivers have an ice scraper and de-icer, warm clothes and blankets, a torch and spare batteries, a shovel and a first aid kit.
