A fire has caused major damage to a car in Weymouth
Emergency services were called to the blaze today on Grove Avenue, off Dorchester Road, shortly before 9am.
The front of the car appeared badly damaged and burnt and two police officers remained at the scene at around 9.15am.
There was also a large fuel spillage which has now been reported to the local authority.
A passer-by on Dorchester Road, said: "I saw oil leading all the way up the street, and when I looked further down the road there was a black car that looked badly damaged by fire."
The fire was extinguished by a firefighter using breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet.
The crew from Weymouth also assisted police with scene safety.
According to the fire service, no serious injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 8.54am today with reports of a vehicle fire on Dorchester Road.
“One fire engine from Weymouth was sent and on arrival found one car alight.
“We requested attendance of the Local Authority due to a large fuel spillage.”
The stop message, meaning that the incident had been dealt with and no further action was required came in at 9.19am.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Officers were called at 8.56am and are on the scene to assist the fire service with traffic management."
