A REDEVELOPMENT of an empty Dorchester South Street newsagents’ shop is being planned – including changes to a second, linked, shop site on Trinity Street.
The former Martin’s shop site on South Street extends across the block to Trinity Street where there is a second commercial unit in the same ownership, last used as a tattoo business.
The refurbishment proposals, from Faber Investments Ltd, based in Sturminster Newton, include a new shop front to the South Street building with the creation of a side door for access to the living accommodation above.
The living spaces, across three floors, will be refurbished with a new bathroom fitted and ceilings replaced throughout, with new windows and doors and other, minor, internal changes made to improve the four-bedroom living accommodation. An agent acting for the owner says that damage has been caused over the year by leaks from the roof.
In Trinity Street the existing shop front would remain in place with both buildings being fitted with new roofs and formally separated from each other.
Dorchester town council has raised no objections to the changes which are now open to public comment until the end of November when a decision will be made by Dorset Council.
The full details of the application can be seen on the Dorset Council website using reference 2024/06134.
