HERE'S some truly fantastic photos of a Broadway legend in Weymouth.

Elaine Stritch visited Pullingers restaurant in the town for an Echo-hosted celebrity lunch back in 1978.

The sell-out lunches were held on Sundays and in partnership with Rothmans who, for several years, ran summer promotions exclusively with the paper.

Rothmans, a national company, would come to town each summer with beach events and lots of goodies.

Ex-Echo employee Dave Johnston, who shared these photos with us, added: "For several summer seasons Rothmans came to town and worked with us on seasonal entertainment events in pubs, with newsagents and around the Weymouth area in general."

Elaine had a reputation as a 'sharp-tongued, unapologetically audacious personality' and was known for her 'whiskey-soaked voice and wry comic timing'.
