AUDITIONS are to be held for a local production of a fast-paced and hilarious satire.
Weymouth Drama Club is seeking performers to be in The Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Dario Fo and Franca Rame, adapted by Tom Basden.
It will be staged at Weymouth Drama Club’s own Harbour Theatre in February with rehearsals beginning in January.
The auditions will be held on November 19.
This fast-paced and hilarious satire takes a look at a suspicious death in police custody through the eyes of a character known only as “The Maniac”.
Performed in its original Italian in 1970, the play was first adapted for the English stage in the 1980s. This 2023 adaptation, by actor, comedian and playwright Tom Basden, ran to great acclaim in the West End, bringing the action right up to date by setting it in London’s Metropolitan Police.
Tony King, the play’s director, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people to act in a play that will challenge both the cast and the audience.
"We’re always happy to welcome new people. You don’t have to be a member of the club to audition.”
Anyone interested in auditioning can contact email wdc.anarchist@gmail.com to find out more about the parts and the play.
Auditions will begin at 7.30pm on November 19 at the Harbour Theatre (previously the Warehouse), 7 Hope Square, Weymouth DT4 8TU.
