A new outdoor gym has opened in Lyme Regis giving seafront gardens a new lease of life.
Lyme Regis Town Council recently opened the facility at Lister Gardens.
The equipment, costing £25,000, is part of an overall investment in the seafront garden, providing further amenities for visitors and locals to enjoy.
It took only a week to fully install the gym, which includes a chest press and pull down, space walkers, cycles and a swingalong.
Town mayor Philip Evans MBE attended the facility opening day along with Cllr Cheryl Reynolds.
Cllr Evans said: “We are very impressed with the range of gym equipment which we are confident will be well used by the public.
"This is further evidence of the council’s policy of improving and extending our leisure amenities.”
Lister Gardens was chosen due to its scenic surroundings, with a view of the sea and the Cobb.
Lyme Regis Town Council hopes it will provide a free and accessible alternative way for the community to work out while giving Lister Gardens a new lease of life.
A spokesperson said: "We try to invest money back into the community. Health and wellbeing is always high on the agenda and it seemed a good idea to put together another free attraction.
"People can't always afford gym memberships so it will help people who are looking to get fit and healthy.
"It has made good use of the area that was unused to give it a new lease of life. Its suitable for anyone of any age. If you can take in a view of the seafront while staying fit and healthy, why not take advantage of this great amenity."
There are also plans to open a new building in the gardens to provide improved accommodation for the council employees who run the mini-golf as well as a rest area of council gardeners and new public toilets.
Other ideas being pursued include a children’s play area and facilities to play the French game of boules.
