Further delays to the development of a facility in Dorchester have meant its car park will stay closed well into the new year.

As previously reported, Dorset History Centre has been going through extensive building works, meaning that there has been no public access to the car park off Bridport Road since June.

Work was due to be completed in September, but due to matters beyond the centre’s control, the car park was due to stay closed until November.

Now it has been revealed that the works have gone behind, and it is estimated that they will not be completed until February of next year.

The building is shared with the registry office and is likely to affect people using that service.

A spokesperson for the history centre said: "A reminder for all customers and visitors to Dorset History Centre that we are in the middle of extensive building works.

"Unfortunately, for reasons beyond our control, these works have slipped further behind schedule, and we are now estimating that works will not be completed until February 2025.

"We ask visitors to exercise caution when moving around the outside of the building, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience these works might cause."

The history centre recommends local car parks at the Top o’Town and Fairfield Road as an alternative and asks for anyone to get in touch with them with any queries prior to visiting before November.
