One of Weymouth’s busiest streets has reopened a day ahead of schedule.
King Street in Weymouth has been closed since Monday so that Wessex Water could repair a collapsed sewer.
It has now officially reopened, despite works initially being scheduled to end on Friday.
The busy street is a key route for traffic heading into the centre and also across town and towards Portland. It has been shut both ways between Queen Street and Crescent Street/Gloucester Mews.
A spokesperson for Wessex Water said: “We have been carrying out emergency repairs on a collapsed sewer on King Street since Monday, but the hard work of our team has ensured it has been completed ahead of schedule.
“We would like to thank customers, businesses and road users for their patience during this essential work and apologise for any inconvenience caused.’’
Last night, the traffic lights were not working, meaning that cars had to approach the junction cautiously.
Due to the road closure, there were also several changes made to bus routes.
