Art enthusiasts will get the opportunity to create a buzz in their community by being part of a huge exhibition in Dorchester.
Around 130 artists’ work will be exhibited at the Art in Poundbury winter installation in Jubilee Hall later this month.
Part of the organisation’s work means carrying out activities benefiting the community, and for the second year running, the group will be putting together an unusual project this winter.
This year’s theme is a Hive of Creativity, with the exhibition running from Saturday, November 23 to Sunday, December 1, from 10am to 4pm in the hall.
The work will see massive yellow hexagons installed in such a way to mimic a beehive.
A Community Art Day will take place at the hall, off Queen Mother Square, on Saturday, November 9 between 9am to 2pm with members of the public encouraged to pop in and add their mark to hexagons and ceramic bees, which will also be installed throughout the exhibit.
Members of Art in Poundbury have been giving workshops for children at after-school clubs at the PiPs café on the Great Field, as well as local schools and the Dorchester Adult Day Care Centre, as well as in some local elderly groups to create more of the installation for the exhibition.
The title was inspired by our recent Art in the Sunflowers event, as well as Damers First School core values project, and the fact that bees are in many ways a community in themselves and so reflect what we are doing.”
Speaking about where the inspiration for the idea behind this year’s theme came from, artistic director Judy Tate said: ““It will be a great event- mainly working with a lot of yellow, which of course is a happy colour, and we all need that at the moment.
“None of this could happen without the support of our amazing sponsors; C G Fry and Son, Morrish Homes, Parkers Estate Agents and Rolls Landscaping. We are also lucky to have invaluable support from so many local businesses.”
Throughout the exhibition, Arts in Poundbury will also be running a prize draw to raise funds for both Dorset County Hospital Emergency and Critical Care Appeal and fellow charity, Arts in Hospital. Over the nine days there will also be ‘have a go’ sessions in ceramics and glass during the exhibition.
