An army veteran, who became an Invictus Games vice-captain for Team UK, is inviting Dorset families to ‘walk to remember’ in honour of veterans this November.
Spencer Bull, who served for 29 years in the British Army, wants the Dorset community to show their support for veterans and loved ones by joining a heartfelt five-kilometre walk at the Bovington Tank Museum, on November 30.
The father of three saw action in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Kuwait, but his military career came to an end after a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. He now advocates for Remembrance and veteran support.
He said: “Remembrance is a powerful time of year, and I feel a responsibility lies with this generation to keep it going.
“We owe it to the families of those who were left behind and to those living with the traumas of war.
“Remembrance can be tough for veterans. Dealing with it is very emotional. The walk to remember will provide a time for us all to reflect on that and help to wrap our arms around others to support them.”
The walk is a free event hosted by the military charity Help for Heroes and will begin with tea and coffee at 10am.
Attendees will then have the opportunity to hear from Spencer himself at 11am, followed by the walk's start at 11.30am.
The five-kilometre nature route invites families to share stories, connect, and dedicate a personal tribute to loved ones.
Each participant will be provided a bib that can be personalised with the name of someone they wish to remember, offering a thoughtful way for everyone to honour those they hold dear.
Following the walk, participants will be welcome to enjoy complimentary refreshments, including cakes and pastries, and explore The Tank Museum at no extra charge.
The museum’s family-friendly features range from soft play areas and interactive exhibits for children to historical displays and a World of Tanks Gaming Zone, ensuring there is something for all ages.
The walk promises a day of camaraderie, reflection, and community support, creating an opportunity for local families to come together and show gratitude for those who have sacrificed so much.
