A van driver who was allegedly four times the drink-drive limit has been arrested by police.
A member of the public called the police after becoming concerned when they saw the man slumped in the driver's seat of a flatbed van outside of the Tesco in Easton, Portland.
Whilst going to the scene, police passed the van, and they were able to stop him on Hambro Road.
Police say he failed a roadside test, and a further breath test whilst in custody showed he was four times the legal limit.
Police added that he will be charged, and have his case heard before the courts.
A spokesperson for the Weymouth & Portland Police said: "Earlier this evening (Monday, November 4) a member of the public reported concerns regarding a possible drink-driver seen entering the car park of Tesco, Portland.
"They were alarmed by the manner of driving and then saw the driver slumped in the driver's seat outside the store. Whilst officers were on the way the vehicle passed them going the opposite way, he was followed and stopped near Hambro Road in the vehicle, a flatbed van.
"He failed a roadside breath test, so he was arrested. At custody, he provided a further, evidential breath test, which showed he was four times over the drink-drive limit.
"He will spend several hours with us sleeping the alcohol off before being charged to court, he will likely receive a lengthy driving ban from the courts.
"Thank you to the member of the public who reported this to us, if he hadn't been stopped he could quite easily have crashed considering how drunk he was.
"He was driving a large, flatbed van and would have done some significant damage to property or a person."
