An outdoors shop in Dorchester is closing down, but the space won’t be left empty for long.

Blacks, which sits on the forefront of Tudor Arcade, has been a mainstay in the town for more than 10 years, but recently, hoarding plastered across the shop windows has said the shop is closing down, offering a sale on all items while stocks last.

However, it has been revealed to the Echo that the shop, which will close around some time in the new year, and will reopen shortly after, under a new brand name.

Ryan King, supervisor of the shop off South Street, said: “I’m not sure on the reasons, but the store will be reopening again, here in the same location, under a different name.”

According to Mr King, Blacks, along with other outdoors and camping supply shops, such as Millets and Ultimate Outdoors, has merged together, and will reopen as a GO Outdoors Express.

Remaining tight lipped on when the popular supply shop will reopen, Mr King hinted: “Sometime early next year.”

There are four other shops under the Blacks umbrella in the South West area that are also making the switch, according to reports.

Originally opened in the 1860s, Blacks has 69 UK stores, and after it entered administration in 2012, it is now owned by JD Sports Fashion plc.
