A man riding an electric bike has been arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs in Weymouth.
The man was seen by police riding around Weymouth earlier this afternoon. When they tried to stop him he attempted to ride off, into the Gloucester Mews car park, which is surrounded by metal railings.
He was searched and a number of wraps of suspected Class A drugs were found.
The bike was seized by police and the man remains in custody.
A spokesperson for Weymouth & Portland Police said: "This afternoon Weymouth Neighbourhood officers were on patrol when they saw a male riding a push bike around the town and saw him a number of times.
"He was riding the bike 'side saddle' and not pedalling so was clearly an electric-powered bike. We stopped to speak with the individual but he tried to ride off, unfortunately for him, he rode into a car park on Gloucester Mews surrounded by metal railings.
"He was caught and detained for a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act, within a cigarette packet on his person were a number of wraps of class A drugs.
"He was arrested for being in possession with intent to supply a class A drug.
"Due to the electric motor on the vehicle, this will be deemed a 'mechanically propelled vehicle' under the road traffic act so this was seized, as we would any car or motorbike with no insurance, and he was arrested for driving with no insurance and no driving licence.
"He remains in custody with us whilst the matter is progressed."
