People travelling to see the fireworks and bonfire tonight on Weymouth Beach will need to plan ahead due to the closure of a main route.
As previously reported in the Echo, a collapsed sewer means that King Street will be closed between its junctions with Crescent Street and Queen Street, by the train station. This closure is set to begin on November 4 and end on November 8.
Pedestrian access will not be affected by the works and the footway will still be accessible.
Drivers travelling to watch the fireworks are advised to take this closure into account when making travel plans.
Weymouth Town Council are encouraging people to consider walking, cycling or using public transport to attend the event wherever possible.
Following the end of the fireworks display, people are advised to take care when crossing the Esplanade to exit the event and use the designated crossing points and underpass.
Cars will be able to access the rail station car park and the Esso petrol station from the Swannery.
Road users will have to use Dorchester Road and the Esplanade in order to get access to Gloucester Mews/ Crescent Street.
Motorists exiting right from Queen Street or left from Park Street will be able to head towards the Swannery.
Buses -
The buses will also be affected. First Bus Route 1, 3 and X53 will all start and end at the rail station forecourt.
On route 10, certain journeys arriving in Weymouth before 9.30am and after 8pm will be diverted between Radipole and Weymouth.
Route 10A will not serve stops along Preston Road in the afternoon. After serving Chalbury Corner, the bus will divert via Littlemoor Road, Dorchester Road and Weymouth Way to Weymouth Rail Station.
