The winners of a prestigious children's Olympic flag competition in Dorchester has been announced.
Neil Strudwick, owner of Goldcrest Jewellers and Dorchester BID chairman, presented the Supersleuth award to the Ball family in Brewery Square.
The competition saw children tasked with visiting businesses all over the county town to collect flags of Olympic competing countries to add to their sticker book. It aims to encourage hundreds of children with their families to explore all part of the town centre that they might not otherwise visit.
Phil Gordon DBID Project Director said: “We got 500 sticker albums printed but had to get a reprint to keep up with demand.
“With a record number of fully completed sticker albums we had nearly twice as many entries compared to the previous competition and the feedback from participating businesses was just lovely.
“The children get to decide which shop in town they would like to spend their £25, £50 or £80 prize vouchers and its lovely seeing them spending their vouchers in town.”
Winners were made up of Alexander Cameron and in the 11-16 category Maisey Pavey (1st), Ruby Dominy and Hoah Ayres and Lara Siblley. Lara said: “As a family we all really enjoyed this Summer’s Supersleuth, we’ve attempted it in previous years but this was the first year we’d managed to find all of the stickers. Maggie was particularly determined to complete it this year and really impressed me with her knowledge in recognising a lot of the flags.”
