A fascinating talk on life in a famous historical Dorset home will take place next week.

Friends of Weymouth Museum are welcoming a talk about rural life in the county during the 1800s.

The group will welcome Martin Gething to give the third talk of the Friends’ autumn programme.

The talk will be held in Hope United Reformed Church on Trinity Street in Weymouth on Monday, November 4 between 2pm to 3.30pm.

After retiring from the Ministry of Defence in 2017, Mr Gething has been a volunteer with the National Trust at Clouds Hill for the last six years.

Seeing that little was known about the pre-First World War history of Clouds Hill, he has extensively researched its history from the 18th century onwards.

The Clouds Hill cottage, near Bovington, is preserved in the care of the National Trust as a memorial to T. E. Lawrence, known as Lawrence of Arabia, and is essentially frozen in time from the mid-1930s.

This talk will aim to build up a picture of the families who called Clouds Hill home over a period of more than a century, bringing to life a typical Dorset rural community that is so often invisible in documented records.

Tickets will be available on the door and are £2.00 for members of the Friends and £3.00 for visitors.
