A roundabout on the A35 has been branded 'dangerous' by a driving instructor due to faded road markings.
The Stadium Roundabout connects the A35 and the A354 with Weymouth Avenue, Dorchester.
Leaza Pearce, a driving instructor for Buzz Automatic Driving School working in the Dorchester area, has shared concerns over the state of the lane markings, fearing there could be a 'horrible crash' if they are not repainted.
She is airing her concerns as National Highways has announced work is soon to begin to repaint lines on the roundabout.
Miss Pearce said: "It is classed as a spiral roundabout so you need the lines to be shown, particularly when teaching as a guide point. The lines are literally gone at certain points and without them, it is causing people to cut across lanes and be in the wrong one.
“As a driving instructor, it is causing a few problems; we’re trying to teach people to do it properly.
"It's a nasty fast roundabout and it can be quite dangerous. There’s going to be a horrible crash there at some point."
She described the lane markings for Honiton and Poole as "non-existent" and added that it is difficult for drivers to know where to position which, paired with "reckless" driving, can lead to near misses.
In her 10 years as an instructor, Miss Pearce says the state of the roundabout has "always been bad" and she has previously reported it to National Highways.
She got a response saying that there were plans to redesign it, however this didn't take place.
With the colder and darker months approaching, Miss Pearce is calling for urgent action.
She added: “The whole roundabout needs re-doing. It’s hard enough in the current wet weather to see the white lines.
“You’re not quite sure where other drivers are going because the lines are difficult to see and not many people signal.
“You get big artic lorries going round it. It can be quite frightening. If you don’t get in the correct lane. You could be going straight across with a lorry right on your side."
When these concerns were put to National Highways, the Echo received a statement to say that work will soon begin to repaint the work.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: "Safety is our priority and we are in the process of programming work to repaint the lines at Stadium Roundabout.
"We hope the work will be completed in the next few months, subject to suitable weather conditions."
