A young man was arrested after refusing to tell police who he was.
Following further patrols around Easton Gardens on Portland last night, officers from Weymouth and Portland Police came across a group of young people who were behaving in an antisocial manner.
Police engaged with the group and asked them for their personal information such as their names and addresses.
A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: “Despite what some individuals thought, they are required to give name and address having been engaging in anti-social behaviour, should they fail to do this they are likely to be arrested.”
One young man in particular refused to give his details despite warnings, so he was arrested.
The spokesperson added: “He was later de-arrested when he saw sense and told officers who he was.”
The young man was then issued a dispersal notice, ordering him to stay away from the area of Easton Gardens for the next 12 hours, and driven home by police.
Two other individuals that were also ‘interfering’ during the incident and failed to leave the area were also issued dispersal notices.
The police spokesperson said: “Whilst this is a short term fix we will be working with our partners to try and ensure that this behaviour is not repeated in the future.
“We fully appreciate that young people like to use the area to socialise and our first step is to try and engage and educate but we cannot tolerate excessive noise, foul language and will take action if faced with this behaviour.”
