A SUSPECTED thief changed his mind about jumping in the harbour and surrendered to police after a chase through town.
The Dorset Council CCTV operator alerted officers to a man ‘acting suspiciously in the area of Newstead Road and hiding behind a wall.’
He was subsequently located but 'ran off towards the marina hopping over the wall and contemplated jumping in the water’, according to officers
The man decided to climb back over the wall and surrendered to police.
A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said:
“We were also made aware that this male was involved in a burglary yesterday evening, having stolen multiple high value items from Asda.
“He was located by officers, but tried to make an escape, running towards the marina, hopping over the wall and contemplating jumping in the water.
“Upon realising there was nowhere to go and lacking armbands, he decided to climb back up for officers to detain him.”
