Hundreds of ghosts are set to haunt the streets of Dorchester in an attempt to beat a spooky world record.
As Halloween gets underway on Thursday, October 31, residents are invited to dress up as a ghost and meet at Brewery Square, all in a bid to smash the world record attempt for most people gathered together dressed as ghosts.
The aim is to break the current world record of 560 ghosts in one location.
Last Halloween, people gathered in attempt to break the world record, but adverse weather meant they fell short of the record number, despite 204 people attending.

The previous record was set in 2017 by Mercy School Mounthawk in Tralee, Ireland.
Tara Bailey, entre manager at Brewery Square said: “Halloween is one of the highlights of the Brewery Square event calendar and what better opportunity to have another go at this world record breaking attempt.
"Last year, we came so close to breaking the record, but we’re determined to make history this time!
"We can’t do it alone…We need everyone to join in and help to make occasion even more ghostly!’’
Dorchester is a fitting place for such an event due to its haunting history. There have been many rumours of ghostly goings that have spanned centuries, with a wave of sightings seen over the years from Roman soldiers to the chilling Judge Jeffreys.
Other figures, like Martha Brown, the last woman publicly hanged in Dorset, are also said to haunt the town’s visitors.
The attempt is part of a Halloween fun day organised by Discover Dorchester. Following the record attempt, attendees can enjoy an evening filled with live music, dancing, entertainment and competitions for all ages.
The entire week leading up to the big day will also be packed with a variety of eerie activities, ensuring there is something for everyone with arts and crafts, workshops, circus skills and a ghost hunt.
