A man was arrested after stolen meat, a blade and suspected ammonia were found in a police search.
Neighbourhood officers were on patrol in Weymouth town centre today, Thursday, October 24, when they received a report of shoplifting at Marks and Spencer on St Mary Street.
The incident allegedly involved a man and a woman.
Once officers arrived at the scene, both the man and the woman were detained and searched.
More than £90 worth of meat was found from both people as well as a bladed article and suspected ammonia from the man.
The man in question is now in custody and is assisting police with enquiries.
A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland police said: "We would like to remind the public, that there is no excuse to carry weapons of any kind in a public place and it is a serious offence to do so.
"Dorset Police remain committed to making a safe county for everyone, so we appreciate any intelligence that the public can give us to achieve this goal.
"If you are concerned about someone you know, or just someone in public carrying a weapon, you can report it to us via 999, 101, or using our online portal depending on the circumstances."
