A NEW leader is to be elected as the voice of local businesses.
Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce (WPCC) has announced that Paul Appleby has stepped down as president due to increased work commitments.
Mr Appleby has been thanked by the chamber for his 'dedicated service and hard work' during his tenure, and will continue to support the chamber as a member of its executive committee when work commitments allow.
He was appointed as president in Match 2022.
Dominique Manasseri, who previously served as vice-president, has stepped up into the role of acting president until the organisation meets at its annual general meeting next year when it will vote for a new president.
In this role, Mrs Manasseri will guide the chamber as they move forward with its initiatives and community engagement.
Mr Appleby said “I’ve very much enjoyed my time as president of the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce.
"I’m disappointed to step down mid-year but have to due to increasing work commitments. I’d like to thank the chamber’s executive committee for all their support and hard work over the last two and half years and special thanks to the vice president Dominique Manasseri for stepping up to acting president until the annual General meeting in late March.
"I will remain with the chamber and sit with the executive board when I can.”
Mrs Manasseri has said she is 'deeply honoured' to take on the responsibility of leading the organisation forward.
She added: "With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and excellence, I am committed to building on our successes and driving forward with strategic initiatives that benefit our team, stakeholders, and community.
"I look forward to working alongside all of you to achieve great things and continue our legacy of leadership and integrity."
The chamber has also announced the appointment of two new acting vice presidents, Clive Garman and Claire Hoff, who will replace Mrs Manasseri in her former role.
Both Mr Garman and Mrs Hoff are considered valued members of the executive committee, and their leadership will be 'instrumental' to the transition period, the chamber has said.
