Weymouth's Service of Remembrance will see local dignitaries as well as representatives from the Armed Forces pay their respects for those who have lost their lives during conflict.
On Sunday, November 10, the Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Jon Orrell will be joined by his chaplain, Neil Biles, veterans, councillors – including the Armed Forces Covenant Champion – and members of the Armed Forces for the moving service.
It will be held at the Cenotaph on Weymouth Promenade from 10.55am on Remembrance Sunday.
Members of the public are invited to attend to come together to remember the service and sacrifice of all those who have sacrificed their lives in the name of freedom.
At 11am, members of the Nothe Fort Garrison will fire the first cannon from the beach, signalling the start of the two-minute silence, followed by a second at 11.02am to mark the end. Those attending the service are pre-warned that the cannon fire will be loud.
There will then be a wreath laying service at the Cenotaph followed by a parade along the Esplanade to the US Memorial Service where a further short wreath laying ceremony will also take place.
Cllr Orrell, said: “I will join representatives from our Armed Forces for a service of remembrance at Weymouth Cenotaph on the Esplanade where I will lay a wreath on behalf of the town.
"The poignant service on Remembrance Sunday is usually very well attended due to Weymouth’s rich military history. Anyone who would like to join us should gather at the Cenotaph in good time for the service at 11am.”
Cllr Joanna Dickenson, Armed Forces Covenant Champion, added: “This will be the first time I will be attending Weymouth’s Remembrance Sunday service as Weymouth Town Council’s Armed Forces Covenant Champion.
"It is a huge privilege as I have a son serving in the Royal Navy, so this will be an extra special day for me, my family, and so many other families in Weymouth who have or have had their loved ones serve in the Armed Forces.”
