Around 80 people held a protest for peace in Weymouth as the war in Gaza and Lebanon continues.

The demonstration was in Weymouth town centre and saw protesters from the Dorset Palestine Solidarity Campaign take to the streets under the slogans "Stop the Genocide in Gaza - Hands Off Lebanon - Don't Attack Iran".

A 'die-in' - where protesters simulate being dead - was held and a minute silence for the over 42,000 known victims of Israel's war against Hamas, the majority of whom are women and children.

It was one of 40 protests held in cities and towns across Britain, with 30,000 demonstrating in London's Trafalgar Square, before laying flowers and children's toys at the gates of Downing Street.

The emergency demonstrations were called after scenes of tents going up in flames at a Palestinian refugee camp at Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Gaza were show across the globe after an Israeli airstrike killed around 20 people.

The attack came at a time when Israel's attacks on the north of Gaza, which it says are targeting Hamas fighters were using them as staging grounds for attacks.

More than 400,000 Palestinians in the north of Gaza have been told to leave but have nowhere to go to.

The vast majority of Palestinians in Gaza are internally displaced.

Rob Ferguson, secretary of Dorset Palestine Solidarity Campaign said: "Some 69 per cent of Britons say Israel should stop military action and call a ceasefire according to YouGov polling.

"Fifty-six percent of Britons support ending arms sales to Israel as against only 13 per cent who say sales should continue."

The Dorset Palestine Solidarity Campaign are also sending a coach full of campaigners to the national demonstration for Palestine on November 2 in London.
