A pedestrian injured in a collision last night has sustained 'serious' injuries a police update has revealed. 

Emergency services were called to Fortuneswell on Portland just after 9pm after a collision involving the pedestrian and a vehicle near the Britannia Inn.

Police and paramedics were sent to the scene and the air ambulance was scrambled and landed near the Portland Heights Hotel.

The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police say. 

Fortuneswell was closed for almost two hours as the emergency services dealt with the incident.

An eyewitness said traffic was being diverted through some of the back streets.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 9.08pm on Sunday, October 20 of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Fortuneswell on Portland.

"Emergency services attended and the pedestrian was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were believed to be serious but not  life-threatening.

"Road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded and the road was reopened at around 10.40pm."
