Drugs were seized from an individual in Weymouth town centre, police said.

Officers from Dorset Police were out on patrol in the town as part of its Safe Business Action Week initiative.

This involved uniformed and plain clothed officers patrolling the streets and during their patrol an individual was stopped and searched under section 23 Misuse Drugs Act.

During the search on Saturday a quantity of ketamine - a class C drug - was seized.

Ketamine is a synthetic drug that is commonly used in medical and veterinary practice but is also used as an illegal recreational drug.

It is normally sold as a grainy white or light brown powder that looks similar to cocaine but is a very different drug. It is known as dissociative anaesthetic.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Our action continued for Safer Business Action Week.

"We started the shift with patrols in and around the Town Centre utilising a mixture of uniformed and plain clothed officers.

"We stop and searched an individual under section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act and a quantity of ketamine was seized."

Police say that security staff at the supermarket deterred the shoplifters and attended to speak with staff to make sure there were no other issues.

The police spokesperson added: "Later on in the evening we responded to reports of two prolific shoplifters that had just entered Asda.

"They were deterred by staff before we arrived and surprisingly paid for their goods on this occasion. An important reminder, they have to be lucky every time, we however, only have to be lucky the once
