HAMBLE CLUB 2

Roach 67, 74

Bridport crashed out of the FA Vase as Wessex League side Hamble Club ran away 2-0 winners at St Mary's.

It was the second year running that the Hampshire-based club knocked the Bees out of the competition, this time in the first round.

Two second half goals from Clayd Roach in the space of seven minutes saw the visitors progress into the next round not for a lack of effort from Bridport though.

The visitors almost took the lead in the opening minute of the game as Roach was put through on goal.

However, Bees keeper Jordan Scadding was on hand to turn the ball away fro a corner.

It was an end to end game in the opening exchanges as both teams looked to take the lead.

Bridport felt a little hard done by though as several referring decisions seemed to go against them.

First a push on Brad Rowe, who was 20 yards from goal went unpunished and then an obvious double tap free kick by the Monks ‘keeper went unnoticed.

Roach was causing the Bees problems and forced Scadding to produce a wonderful save from close range in the 13th minute.

Riley Weedon then had Bridport's first chance with a shot that sailed over the bar from distance.

In an even half, Hamble’s Bailey Honeysett and Harry Hamilton matched the Bees Luke King and Brad Rowe as they probed the opposition defences.

Samuel Fodfroy, Roach and Matthew Casey all tested the home goal prior to half time but the Bees were able to keep them out as the teams entered the break all square.

It was much of the same after the break with King snuffing out two Hamble attacks, and the increasingly over worked Scadding stood firm to keep the visitors at bay

With just over an hour played, the Bees had their best chance to open the scoring after a goal mouth scramble saw the ball slide agonisingly past the Hamble goal.

The next ten minutes proved crucial in the game as on 67 minutes the host were awarded a penalty after another goal mouth scramble ended in the ref pointing to the spot.

Roach stepped up and calmly slotted home from 12 yards, despite Scadding diving the right way.

Seven minutes later tt was 2-0 after Brandon Douglas and Roach raced through on a breakaway.

Douglas' pass found Roach with the forward doubling his tally for the afternoon.

Scadding prevented a further goal when he saved a penalty from substitute Sol Nwosu Mazi late into the game but the Bees were unable to turn things around and the game finished 2-0 to Hamble.
