A new monthly support group is set to launch in Dorchester providing vital assistance to people living with dementia.
The Dorchester Forget-Me-Not Dementia Support Group, run in partnership with the Shire Hall Museum and Age UK North, South & West Dorset, will open its doors for the first time on Monday, October 21 at 1.30pm.
It will be held at the historic Shire Hall Museum on High West Street on every third Monday of the month.
The group will offer activities specifically designed for people with dementia, following the principles of Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (MCST).
MCST supports the maintenance of cognitive functions, with activities that stimulate memory and thinking skills. The sessions will also feature guest speakers and games to foster interaction and enjoyment.
The group will also provide a platform for carers to connect with others, discuss their experiences and benefit from each other’s insights.
Rachel Newman, wellbeing manager from Age UK North, South & West Dorset, said: "Our aim is to offer an environment where people living with dementia, along with their carers, can find support, feel less isolated, and enjoy meaningful activities together."
The sessions cost £2.50 per person and more information can be found by visiting the Shire Hall Museum at High West Street, Dorchester, or by contacting Age UK North, South & West Dorset on 01305 269444.
