A man has been charged after stealing alcohol from a supermarket.
Officers were on patrol in Weymouth town centre as part of Dorset Police's Safer Business Action Week, to help tackle business and retail crime across the county.
They were alerted to an incident of shoplifting from ASDA in Weymouth this morning (Wednesday, October 16).
Upon arrival the man had already left and made off towards Weymouth Magistrates Courts.
The man was found by police and detained for a stop and search.
During the search, officers found two bottles of wine and a can of alcohol concealed on him.
A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: "The man was wanted for another non-criminal matter, which took priority and has now been dealt with and he has been provided the support he required.
"He has been reported for the offence of shoplifting and will be receiving a summons to court in due course.
"Two more stop and search were conducted with goods being recovered."
