Dorset County Hospital is set to host an exciting guest for a fundraising event.

Renowned journalist and broadcaster Kate Adie OBE, who lives in Dorset, is a patron for the hospital’s Emergency and Critical Care Appeal.

The veteran war correspondent is now set to host ‘An Evening With Kate Adie’ on Wednesday, November 20, from 7pm at Brownsword Hall, Poundbury.

The evening will follow fascinating stories and insights from her incredible career and life experiences.

From Tripoli to Tiananmen Square, from Belfast to Bosnia and many frontlines in between, Kate Adie's reputation for uncompromising straight-talking and fearless journalism is hard earned.

Questions from the audience will be encouraged with Dr Will McConnell, consultant at Dorset County Hospital, leading the proceedings.

Kate Adie said: “In my work, I’ve seen for myself the need for emergency and critical care and our local hospital deserves the best.”

She has written four books: her autobiography - The Kindness of Strangers, Corsets to Camouflage, Nobody's Child and, most recently, Into Danger.

Kate Adie was Chief News Correspondent for BBC News between 1989 and 2003, reporting from war zones around the world. She went on to present From Our Own Correspondent on Radio 4. This has maintained her insight into the world of frontline journalism and shone a light on the challenges of war reportage in the digital age.

Dr Will McConnell, Consultant Respiratory Physician at Dorset County Hospital said: “I am tremendously excited to be able to hear Kate's amazing stories about her life and career, which are even more relevant now, and to hear how she sees the future of journalism, the BBC and the health service, in the rapidly changing media landscape.”

Proceeds from the event will go to the DCH Emergency and Critical Care Appeal and will fund major enhancements to the new emergency department and critical care unit which is currently under construction.

This will include overnight accommodation for relatives of critical care patients, a patient garden and staff welfare facilities as well as a specialist child and adolescent mental health suite in the emergency department.

Entry to the event will include a complimentary drink on arrival and a pay bar will also be available.

Tickets are £20 per person and can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/an-evening-with-kate-adie-tickets-1034831287237.
