A Dorset charity which provides care to people with life-limiting illnesses has been chosen as the official partner for next year's Weymouth Half Marathon.

The annual event, which sees hundreds of people take to the streets of Weymouth, is set to return on Sunday, March 16 2025.

Participants travel 13 miles through the town, harbour, seafront, country park and gardens. Each person must raise funds in sponsorship for the event's chosen cause.

Weldmar Hospicecare is this year's charity partner and it is pledging to refund the registration fee of any participant who meets the minimum sponsorship target for Weldmar of £250 through a JustGiving page.

Eden Fraser, Weldmar Fundraiser, said: “We are really pleased to be partnering with Weymouth Half Marathon next year for their 10th anniversary.

"We are really hoping to raise lots and lots of vital funds for Weldmar Hospicecare, whilst also having a great day cheering you all on.”

This year's half marathon saw more than 1,200 runners take part.

Athletes typically begin at Weymouth Pavilion, before they made their way around the town as far as Portland Beach Road and back, across the seafront then out to Overcombe Corner before returning to the finish line back in front of the Pavilion.

Running alongside the half marathon in 2025 will be the Weymouth Half Half, which will be a 7 mile fun run.  Finishers will receive a memento and time, but there will be no prizes in any categories for this event.

Alan Rose founder of Just Racing UK which organises the Weymouth Half Marathon, added: “We are really excited to be working with the charity, and helping to raise much needed funds.

"We have all experienced loss, and we have all seen the good work that hospices do. Locally Weldmar have helped so many people, including so many people I know and their families.”
