THREE motorcyclists were reported by police for driving erratically.

Police officers were patrolling the Esplanade on Saturday when they stopped a Motocross bike which was "riding erratically" near the Pavilion and Alexandra Gardens.

A spokesperson for Weymouth and Portland Police said: "Following checks on the bike it subsequently resulted in the bike being seized for no insurance and taken away, with the rider being reported for traffic offences."

The officers then stopped two further motorbikes which were "riding erratically" and "causing a nuisance to the public"

The police spokesperson said: "We managed to catch up with the bikes and stopped them on Custom House Quay where both parties were issued a section 59 order due to the manor of their riding.

"Conversations were had and both riders were very apologetic and understood the errors of their ways, once the paperwork was issued they were sent on their way."

"Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 provides officers with the power to issue to riders or drivers warnings in relation to the manner/use of a motor vehicle, where it is believed it is causing or likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.

"There is a marker placed on our systems on both the user/owner, and the vehicle, which if caught committing the same offence in a period of 12 months will lead to that vehicle being seized on that second instance."
