A charity worker and grandmother-of-two from Dorset is celebrating after winning a £2.5m house - for just £10.
Jo Booth, 61 and from Weymouth, has won the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw in Yorkshire.
Jo, who has worked with homeless people for more than 20 years, was over the moon after becoming the proud owner of an 18th Century Georgian country house in Ryedale boasting six-bedrooms, acres of gardens and a spa pool, as well as its own paddocks, stables and state-of-the-art equestrian facilities.
Jo found out she had won the big prize after playing a round of golf with her husband.
She said: “The day I found out I'd won; I’d actually skived off work to enjoy a rare afternoon playing golf with my husband.
“I was already having a pretty good day to be fair; I’d shot my best ever round of golf, and was thinking life doesn’t get much better than this, but then I found out I’d won a multi-million-pound house, and realised I'd scored a home in one as well.
“It was such a surreal day, one minute you’re living a life where you worry about all the boring bills and the next minute, you’re a multi-millionaire and never have to worry about money ever again, it’s a dream come true.”
She said: “When Omaze came to tell me what I'd won, I just saw a bunch of people in black puffa jackets heading towards my front door, I thought they were burglars at first.”
The prize draw also came with £250,000 cash.
Local estate agents estimate Jo’s new property could achieve a long-term rental value of between £6,000 to £7,000 per month.
Jo and her husband Will Harrop, 51, have lived together in their three-bedroom house in Dorset that Will has built from the ground up himself for the past 15 years.
She has two grandchildren, a boy, 11, and girl, 6, as well as her golden Labrador, Charlie which ‘will enjoy her massive new garden just as much as her grandchildren’.
After finding out about the big win, Jo partied until the sun came up.
She said: “It’s been one big party since we found out.
“Everyone came over to our place and we had a massive party, we were raving in the kitchen until 3am, we drank the house dry, it was an unforgettable night and well worth the hangover.”
The Omaze Million Pound House Draw, Yorkshire, also raised £3,900,000 for Mencap.
