Jen Daly, owner of Cerne Abbas Village Stores, is one of a number of newsagents and newspaper delivery services that still recognise the importance of newspapers in an increasingly digital age. 

Her shop, in Long Street, delivers about 40 papers a day - which act as a lifeline for members of the community. 

She said: "This is a village where there is an older population and I think people appreciate the 'clunk' sound of the paper coming through their door. 

"When there's someone who isn't not very well we know about it because they haven't collected their papers, so it's an important thing for the community."

The store had an 'enormous round' during the pandemic, Miss Daly said.

That round still includes the care home in Cerne Abbas, where residents are able to stay in touch with their local community with daily newspaper deliveries. 

She added: "People pick up a paper for various reasons and for some they really like to do a crossword on a piece of paper instead of online.

"They also really love local stories in the community like the recent one in the Echo about Vic from Cerne Abbas getting a tattoo with Chesney Hawkes."
